Let’s see, here’s what I’ve got going on in the study department each day…
One section of the weekly Torah portion.
Either the haftarah or a section of the weekly Gospel reading according to the FFOZ reading schedule.
Two chapters from the Prophets. (I’m currently reading 2 Samuel and Isaiah)
Two chapters from the Writings. (Currently reading Psalms and Song of Solomon)
One chapter from the Gospels or Acts. (currently reading John)
One chapter from the writings of Paul. (currently reading 2 Corinthians)
One chapter from what’s left in the Apostolic Writings. (Hebrews through Revelation. currently reading Revelation)
One chapter from one of the Apocryphal books (I’m starting 1 Esdras today)
One chapter from one of the pseudapigraphal writings a friend recommended. (Testament of Abraham, 1 Enoch, Life of Adam & Eve, Testament of the 12 Patriarchs, Letter to Aristeas, Jubilees. I should be starting the Testament of Abraham today. For more info on these writings, check out Early Jewish Writings.)
One chapter from the book Roots of Our Faith by Chuck Cohen. (the link is to the store I bought it from. Scroll down to see it)
In addition, I’m trying to get through an online course by Dwight Pryor, a course on Biblical Hebrew, one on Koine Greek, read a bunch of Torah commentaries, and get through various other articles on Biblical topics. (I also anticipate the Aramaic self-study materials biblicalulpan.com is putting out in 2008, but suspect I’ll be a poor volunteer in Israel right around then that can’t afford them)
Be honest, am I trying too hard? 😀
I also have a prayer request, not related to the above. 😛 I’m trying to get sponsorship from Church as a long-term missionary. I don’t know what kind of hoops I’d have to hop through, but I do know that I’m going back to Israel this summer, and haven’t a clue where the funding is coming from.
